Kevin Sheedy’s ‘The Catch’ debuting in Darwin

NT Thunder in conjunction with the team behind ‘The Catch’ is on the lookout for the best catch in the Men’s 2016/17 Premier League and Div 1 NTFL competition to win a prize worth $9,000.

If you think that’s you or one of your mates, then you don’t want to miss this exciting opportunity.

Saturday 29 July when NT Thunder play Southport in Round 18 NEAFL action will also mark the Australian debut for The Catch.

The Catch is a one-on-one marking competition where each knockout match consists of four contests, with two players competing to catch a football delivered by a 40-metre drop punt. Players start from a different position in each of the four contests, and the player who takes the most catches in the match wins. If scores are locked at one-one or two-two, then a sudden death fifth contest is entered.

Each match lasts for approximately three to four minutes. The winner will advance to the next round, while the loser is eliminated.

The preliminary rounds will be completed before the start of the NT Thunder vs. Southport game, and the semi-finals and final will be played during the half-time break.

Full competition rules will be explained to all players before the competition commences. There’s no punching the ball or pushing the other player. It’s eyes for the ball only, pure and simple. Players can run up, jump and go for a hanger.

The breakdown of the prize pool is:

Overall winner: $1,000 for himself, $8,000 for his NTFL club

Overall runner-up: $500 for himself, $2,000 for his NTFL club

AFL great Kevin Sheedy will oversee all the action and present the prizes on the day.

Each Men’s Premier League and Division 1 club that competed in the TIO NTFL 2016/17 season can nominate up to four players who played in either their Premier League or Div 1 teams.

Players will be required to report to TIO Stadium in full NTFL club uniform no later than 12:30pm on Saturday 29 July (specific details will be sent the week of the competition). The top four winners who make the semi-finals will need to stay for the half-time break of the NEAFL game (approximately 4:10pm).

Registrations close Wednesday 19 July, if you are interested in nominating then please speak to your club president, as clubs will determine entrants.
