The NT Thunder Football Club has been presented a painted AFL football, which was kindly donated by an inmate at the Darwin Correctional Centre.

Within the Darwin Correctional Centre prisoners can voluntarily donate their cultural artwork and one Aboriginal artist chose to donate his artwork to NT Thunder ahead of its Indigenous Round clash with Redland in Alice Springs this Saturday 28 April.

The football is a gift from NT Correctional Services and from the artist, who wishes to give something back to the wider community.

NT Thunder Head Coach, Andrew Hodges was pleased that he and players, Joe Anderson and Matt Campbell were able to receive the special football on a visit to the prison on Thursday afternoon.

“We were honored and humbled to have been chosen to receive this inspired piece of artwork.

“The program offers a great opportunity for the prisoners to use their own artistic skills and cultural knowledge to create works of art that they can take pride in.

“Visits like today are a timely reminder that we exist as people in the community and beyond the football field,” Hodges said.
