AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) and NT Thunder are on the lookout for a qualified and passionate coach to head up the NT Thunder Academy programs.

About the role

The primary responsibility of this role is the development of the best talent (male and female) in the Northern Territory in collaboration with the AFL National Talent Pathways, AFLNT affiliated competitions, NEAFL and VFL W senior coaches and AFLNT Regional Managers for all 18 AFL clubs.

Secondly is working with the Talent and Pathways Manager to play a key role in the personal development of AFLNT affiliated competitions senior coaches and other state programs including diversity programs coaches.

Please note employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal history record check. The successful candidate is required to possess a valid ‘working with children’ check.

The AFL has extensive procedures and checks in place to protect children and young people in our organisation.

A day in the life of

NT Thunder Academy – Head Coach academy teams

  • Selection of NT Thunder Academy squads U16 – 18 male and female through discussion with team selectors, Academy training attendance in Southern and Northern Regions, and attendance of Northern Territory regional trials, Academy Series and interstate matches
  • Assist in the development of NT Thunder Academy underage team program relating to training camp content, training sessions, match day plans, game plans etc.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, education and feedback to all players/coaches involved in AFLNT talent pathways both in male and female programs U16 – 18
  • Assist in the completion of recruiting reports on necessary Northern Territory players and AFL clubs
  • Continue in the development of quality video editing and coding for individual and team coaching, development and feedback
  • Manage NT Thunder Academy coaching staff and Regional Academy Programs
  • Play an important role of monitoring players selected in the National Allies Hub Program and players selected in the AFLW Academy Programs

Management of Talented Player Program in the Northern Territory Talent at U15, 16 and 18 Level

  • Identify elite Northern Territory talent within specified age groups for individual development programs
  • Assist in the development of Regional Academy Programs throughout the Northern Territory
  • Assist the Manager of Talent and Pathways to develop and implement individual development plans with identified players
  • Identify and engage, utilise and assist the local coach in regions to facilitate and support development players and sessions
  • Liaise with parties relating to players i.e. local club and schools
  • Continue in the development of quality video editing and coding for individual and team coaching, development and feedback
  • Work towards developing a relationship with NT School Sports to ensure the development of NT Schoolboys and Schoolgirls program.

NTFC Senior Coaches

  • To assist when requested to help the club with the appointment and season review of assistant senior coaches and development programs
  • Provide support, assistance and engagement with coaching programs relating to all talent programs including Northern Territory coaching structures
  • Assist with coaching and coach education relating to multicultural, Indigenous, female programs and community football where required

Our ideal team member

Mandatory:

  • Recent coaching experience at an AFL club, state league senior level or elite underage competition
  • Minimum Level 2 coaching accreditation
  • Strong understanding of the AFL talent development program and key objectives
  • Planning and report writing skills

Desirable:

  • Capability to prepare player video game review footage and reports
  • Established links with AFL clubs coaching and recruiting staff
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work to a set plan with key stakeholders
