NT Thunder has signed a fresh face to its playing list for 2019 with St Mary’s midfielder Ben Taylor adding his name to the growing NEAFL squad.

Originally from Stawell in country Victoria, 20-year-old Taylor relocated to Darwin in late 2018 and has been playing in his first NTFL season with St Mary’s, racking up all 12 games of the season so far and named in the team’s best a number of times.

Before moving to Darwin, he had been playing for Swifts Football Club in the Horsham District Football League and was their club best and fairest in 2018 and also a league representative in the 2018 WorkSafe Community Championships.

NT Thunder Head Coach Darren Reeves said Taylor had an outstanding character with a strong work ethic.

“Ben is craving an opportunity to play at a higher level, which we are pleased to offer him and know he will put in the hard work for.

“He fits well into our want of players to improve every day and has the versatility to play as an inside and outside mid as well as a small forward,” Reeves said.

Taylor said he was excited by the opportunity presented at Thunder.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that could open more doors for me in the future. There are some of the best footballers on the field, and there will be no weak links in the team.

“I will be up against some quality footballers, but I am ready for the challenge,” he said.
