NT Thunder is excited to sign up and coming Territory talent Jeffrey Simon to the playing list for season 2019 as a rookie.

Simon, who celebrated his 17th birthday two days ago, has played four Premier League games for the Tiwi Bombers in the 2018/19 TIO NTFL season taking his total tally to 11 games after making his debut in Round 2 of the 2017/18 season at the age of 15.

He received the NT News Rising Star nomination in Round 11 of the 2017/18 season and followed it up with another nomination in Round 6 of the current NTFL season.

Simon is the oldest son of famous Tiwi Islands band B2M’s frontman Thomas ‘Yello’ Simon who played in an NTFL premiership with the Palmerston Magpies in 2000/2001, was the first ever Tiwi Bombers captain and also represented the Northern Territory several years running in the Territory Thunder under-18 side

Proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Simon is a hard-working midfielder, that NT Thunder Head Coach Darren Reeves said wasn’t afraid to play on big names.

“We’re thrilled to have Jeff sign with us, he’s an outstanding young talent who makes good decisions with the ball in hand,” Reeves said.

“He’s going to bring a lot to the group, and it will be a great experience for him. Being full time with us, we think he can develop pretty quickly and put his name in front of recruiters around the country over the next six months.

“We will look to play him in outside mid, half back half forward type roles throughout the year.”

Simon said he was enjoying playing senior NTFL footy so far and looked forward to developing as part of the NT Thunder program.

“It’s going to be a great experience for myself, and I’m looking forward to playing against sides with AFL players.

“I want to push my football as far as I can and I’m excited to represent the Territory,” he said.
