Merry Christmas from NT Thunder

Merry Christmas and thanks for an awesome 2018

21.12.18 15:27

It’s been a busy few weeks at NT Thunder so before we draw the curtain on 2018 we just wanted to say thanks for all your support this year.

It was a big one, not only celebrating the 10th anniversary of our men’s team but forging new beginnings and creating history with our ThunderW side.

Under the trusted guidance of Andrew Hodges as NT Thunder Manager and a well-structured and supported team from the whole of AFLNT, there is going to be much to look forward to in 2019.

In case you missed it, we had a little bit of sad news confirmed today with one of our star players, Sam Smith ruled out of next year’s NEAFL season due to a tear in his ACL.

Sam is of great character and resilience, and we know this minor setback will lead to a major comeback. With the support of his teammates here and at Southern Districts, as well as our trusted doctors and physios from Territory Sportsmedicine, the Club will do all it can to get him through this challenge.

Onto some of the more exciting news, and did you see we have a couple of new coaches?

Darren Reeves was announced as our NEAFL Head Coach and comes to us highly recommended. He has already built great rapport with the players and support staff, and we look forward to having him here full time from January.

This week Heidi Thompson was unveiled as the new VFL W Head Coach. Heidi will also head up the NT Thunder Women’s Academy, which will be extremely beneficial to our up and coming players, as she will transition them from juniors through to seniors. Heidi comes from a winning background and will have plenty to offer when she lands in Darwin.

The NT Thunder fixture and VFL Women’s fixture for 2019 both promise big things. We’ve got plenty of action at home in Darwin and Alice Springs, the men will play the AFL curtain raiser in Darwin, while the women play on the same weekend as the big AFL game in Alice Springs.

We get a couple of double-headers also! Put Saturday the 6th of July in your calendar already because the VFL W side will take on Carlton at TIO Stadium at 3.30pm, followed by the NEAFL men against the Sydney Swans at 6.30pm. They are both quality, AFLW and AFL affiliated teams, so it’s going to be fun!

If you missed any of our NEAFL signings, then you can see them all here. There are some new faces amongst some of our old favourites.

The VFL Women’s squad won’t be announced until end January, so check back in then.

Well, we think that’s all of it to bring you up to date with everything NT Thunder. We’re closing up today and will return on Monday 7 January.

We want to thank you for your support this year; we really couldn’t do what we love doing without our members, sponsors, volunteers, families and fans.

Stay tuned in 2019 for more updates and our new membership offerings.

Have a Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy start to the New Year,

The team at NT Thunder
