Junior talent rising through the ranks

This week’s round 14 clash against the Redland Bombers is the perfect time for us to get back on the winners list. Redland got the better of us back in Round 4 at Alice Springs, and we look forward to the opportunity of turning that result around this weekend.

While it’s never easy after a loss, we felt the group showed an improved performance against one of the league’s top sides last weekend. It was especially pleasing to see the performances of young NT talent, Coen Hutt and Beau Schwarze. Both had impressive national Academy series campaigns earlier this year and was great to see them take that form into NEAFL.

During the week, another two Territory talents represented the Allies at the National AFL under 18 Championships, in Matthew Green and Michael Mummery. We look forward to them both re-joining the NEAFL program in the coming weeks.

We’ve already had some exciting young Territory talent play this season with Ankers, Sam Smith, McLean, Stokes, Rioli, Baird, Hampton and Jack Munkara to name a few. We have some others pushing for selection in Wyatt, Forbes, Cole, Foster, Holt-Fitz. All these lads will get an opportunity at some point as they are all very talented.

More young NT talent gets the opportunity to represent Thunder over the coming week with the Under 16 boys off the Queensland for Rounds 2 & 3 of their AFL Nationals.

Some exciting young Territorians are in the squad, including some famous Territory footy names in Rioli, Tipiloura, Long and Jeffrey.  This weekend the under 16 squad will be in Brisbane to support the NEAFL side. As part of their education they will each be given a NEAFL player to observe closely during the game, each player will then write a short report on what they learnt over the course of the game. We look forward to seeing their performances over the last two games, and wish them all the best.
