Coach's Column Round 8

Focused to Continue the Good Form – Round 8

18.05.17 11:35

Round 8 presents us with an opportunity to get our first back-to-back wins of 2017. It’s never an easy task away from home, but the playing group are focused and determined to continue the good form of last week. Players will report to Darwin International Airport at 1pm today for the 4-hour flight to Brisbane, then the one-hour bus ride to the Gold Coast for our clash with the Southport Sharks.

It’s always a tough road trip to Frankhauser reserve, Southport plays their home ground very well and they’ll be keen to continue that this week.  Having had a slow start to the season, we know they will be looking to make our trip a difficult one.  It’s imperative we continue on from the promising performance we displayed at home against the Suns.

It was pleasing for our coaching group to finally see last week the consistent message and hard work pay off on the scoreboard against the Gold Coast Suns. Our impressive 5 goal to one first quarter was possibly our best of the season.  It was a return to our brand of footy, Territory footy, fast, exciting ball movement.  Equally impressive was the willingness and hunger to apply ruthless pressure to the opposition when they had possession of the football. Our pressure on the opposition created numerous scoring opportunities for our forwards, Adam Sambono finishing with five majors and Darren Ewing three was a reward of the good work done by teammates. We must continue to play our brand of footy week in, week out.

Some exciting news over the past week for Territory talent with both the NEAFL Representative and U18 Allies squads named. Four players named in the NEAFL squad in Justin Beugelaar, Daniel Weetra, Ben Rioli and Adam Sambono. The Allies named seven talented young Territorians in Tony Olango, Zac Bailey, Rodney Baird, Jeremiah Scrutton, Matthew Green, Dominic Grant and Adam Sambono. This is fantastic recognition for our program, and we would like to wish them all the best over the coming weeks. NT Thunder and AFLNT State Academy continue to create and provide opportunities for young Territory talent on the National stage.

Don’t miss this weeks action when we take on the Southport Sharks, catch the game live on Thundervision from 12pm Brisbane time to support your team.
