NT Thunder is excited to announce that club legend Darren ‘Boof’ Ewing has signed for Season 2018 to create history by becoming the club’s first ever ten year player.

The 30-year-old, who was part of the inaugural Thunder side in 2009, was also a member of the premiership teams of 2011 and 2015.

Ewing has been the club’s leading goal-kicker for every one of the club’s nine years, including 115 in 2011 when he became the first NEAFL player to kick a ton.

He booted his 700th goal in Thunder colours during the season and was the Northern Conference’s leading goal-kicker in 2011 and 2013 when the NEAFL was split in two.

Ewing has been named in the NEAFL’s (including the Northern conference) team of the year for seven consecutive seasons.

In 2016 he was the first Thunder player to reach 150 NEAFL club games. He is also the only NEAFL player to be named in the NEAFL Team of the Year every season since its inception.

Ewing said ‘I am excited to be back on board for 2018 which will be my tenth year at Thunder and am looking forward to seeing everyone around the club again’.

‘Thunder is just a great place to be and I love going to training and running out with the team each week with my mates and playing for the Territory’ he said.

NT Thunder head coach Andrew Hodges said he is very excited that Ewing has recommitted to NT Thunder for 2017.

‘Over a long period of time Darren has proved to be a genuine scoring option for the team’ Hodges said.

‘He is the ultimate clubman on and off the field and very popular amongst both the playing group and with the fans so to have someone of his experience is invaluable to everyone at the club’.

‘The experience that Boof brings to the young group coming through with his 10 years of experience at this level sets up Thunder for a good start to 2018’ Hodges said.
