Michael Coombes, Justin Cooper and Nick Yarran, three of St Mary’s stars, will play for NT Thunder in 2017.

Coombes previously played for Sturt in the SANFL before returning to the Top End and signing his first contract with Thunder.

Head Coach, Andrew Hodges is happy to have Coombes on board for next year’s NEAFL season after his impressive form in the NTFL Premier League.

“Coombsey has a ruthless attack on the footy and will add lots of grunt to our midfield structure.

“He will be a valuable utility player who can help us across halfback and through the midfield,” Hodges said.

Coombes’ St Mary’s counterpart, Justin Cooper, is another key signing after averaging almost a goal a game in his debut season for Thunder in 2016.

The lively small forward has built a reputation for hassling opposition with his energy, tackling pressure and speed.

Andrew Hodges believes Cooper will provide another genuine goal kicking option for Thunder in 2017.

“Coops will be an important asset to the side, with his uncanny goal sense and creativity forward of centre.

“He plays an exciting brand of Territory footy and we are thrilled that he has committed to Thunder for 2017,” Hodges said.

The youngest of Thunder’s ‘Three Wise Saints’, Nick Yarran Jnr has committed to his first season after previously playing with Woodville West-Torrens in the SANFL.

Hodges is thrilled with the acquisition of Yarran, as he will provide further midfield depth to the Thunder squad.

“Nick is another young rookie signing for Thunder who has the ability to play right across the ground.

“He has elite foot skills, composure with ball in hand and has a ferocious attack on the footy for his size.

“It’s an early Christmas present with the arrival of all three of these guys. Hopefully, Thunder fans are starting to get excited,” Hodges said.
