Thunder ready for top of the table clash

09.08.18 19:06

The NT Thunder women’s team are set for one of their biggest challenges yet when they play the top of the table clash against Collingwood in Round 14 VFL W at football’s famous Victoria Park.

Collingwood is the only team who remain undefeated in the competition this season, but have recorded one draw. Should ThunderW come away with the win against the Pies they will assume top place on the VFL W ladder.

Goal sneak Sue Nalder will return to the team along with the exciting Ebony Marinoff who will provide plenty of drive through the mid field to deliver the ball to her forward line.

Kylie Duggan, Sharona Bishop and Gemma Cusack are among the eight ins as the team look to settle before finals.
They will be joined by Jenna McCormick, Justine Mules and Maddy Gault who round out the changes in a well-balanced team.

Going out of the team is Emma Swanson (suspended) along with Georgia Bevan, Dayna Cox, Courtney Cramey, Nikki Gore, Kristy Irvine, Tahlia Holtze and Lateesha Jeffrey .

ThunderW Head Coach Tim Weatherald said while once again spots were still up for grabs moving towards finals, the focus was putting out a team who would play a consistent, Territory-brand of footy.

“This weekend we take on the top team and only nine of the players were involved in the loss to the Pies back in Round 8, so we believe we have adjusted our side to match-up better with what we saw last time.

“We want to play our brand of footy with the aim of course to come away with the win.

“I think for me, one of the most pleasing things last week was going in at half-time and talking about how we could get better and how we could react and that third quarter we came out and responded really well and then went away from them again in the last quarter.

“The Magpies are deserving ladder leaders and we will be looking to rise to the challenge again this weekend and push them,” Weatherald said.
