NT Thunder has added young Tennant Creek duo, Liam Holt-Fitz and Matthew Green to its rookie list ahead of the 2017 NEAFL season.

Sixteen-year-old Holt-Fitz was first signed to Thunder in 2016 after he moved to Darwin for school and to further develop his football.

He was also a participant in the AFLNT State Academy program, playing National Championship games for the U16s.

Holt-Fitz co-captained the U15 All-Australian team that toured South Africa in early 2016, where he made a name for himself as one of the best young footballing talents to come from the Barkly region.

He has been playing Premier League football with Nightcliff in the NTFL this season and received a nomination for the NT News Rising Star award after his four goal, creative display in the Tigers’ Round 7 win over Southern Districts.

Also 16-years-old, Green is based in Tennant Creek where he will complete year 12 this year and continue to play his local footy with the Spitfires.

He was also a member of the 2016 AFLNT State Academy and is a confident medium-size defender who can play against taller opponents as competently as he does those his size.

NT Thunder Head Coach Andrew Hodges coached both Green and Holt-Fitz as part of the Academy program and said he was glad to have the talented duo signed to the seniors.

“It pleases me to have two young, up and coming Territorians as part of the team.

“We saw Liam’s first year as a development opportunity for him, and it’s off the back of his hard work and dedication that he sees himself with the opportunity to play NEAFL in 2017.

“Matt is a great player to watch, he can win the football in contested situations and will relish the challenges presented to him,” Hodges said.
