Lauren O'Shea in action against the Cats

O’Shea gets call-up on back of misfortune

Last night the club submitted a late change to its VFL Women’s team after midfielder Kristy Irvine suffered a hamstring injury during training.

Travelling emergency, Lauren O’Shea will now come into the side to play her 11th game, and Madeline Keeble has been added as the travelling emergency.

Speaking to the playing group at Thursday’s team announcement, coach Tim Weatherald said;

“There was disappointment last night when I had to tell a few of the girls they had just missed out on a spot; it’s the worst part of my job. But to their credit, they still rocked up to training tonight, and with that, an opportunity has presented itself.

“We feel for Xy (Kristy Irvine), and now we have added motivation to go out there and win and give ourselves a crack at one more game with the hope she can play the following week. We congratulate Loz (Lauren O’Shea) on sticking by, and we know she will do the jumper proud.”

The extent of Irvine’s injury will be properly assessed by the club doctors and physio team next week.
