The North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) and Tasmanian State League (TSL) will renew its representative rivalry in 2017 when the two competitions battle it out at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

The June 10 clash will be the third time the NEAFL and TSL have played each other in the past three years, with the win-loss record evenly poised at 1-1.

NEAFL Operations Manager, Patrick Carter, is expecting another tough challenge against their southern opposition on their home turf.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for the TSL representative team and we’re looking forward to travelling to Hobart and renewing our rivalry with them,” he said.

“We see our representative matches as a big opportunity to showcase some our best talent in the northern states, and we always know we’re going to get a good contest against the TSL.”

The last time the NEAFL and TSL met saw the NEAFL come from behind to win a thrilling match by 20 points last season in Brisbane.

Five players from that game – Sam Michael, Josh Wagner, Josh Smith and Matt Uebergang (NEAFL), and Mackenzie Willis (TSL) – were drafted to AFL clubs at the end of the season.

TSL General Manager, Carl Saunder, said he is looking forward to seeing more quality talent emerge from the next representative clash.

“We’re excited to be hosting the NEAFL next year and we hope the local Tasmanian football community gets behind our team in our home town,” he said.

“Both are highly-talented competitions and we’re looking forward to seeing the best of the best come up against each other.”

The NEAFL v TSL match will be played at Blundstone Arena on June 10, 2017 from 2pm.

The match will be played during Round 11 of next year’s NEAFL fixture, which will be released this Wednesday, November 30.
