NT Thunder is thrilled to welcome the NTFL’s leading goalkicker, Trent Melville to his first season of NEAFL after the 26-year-old Nightcliff star signed on for 2019.

Fresh from winning a premiership with Tea Tree Gully in the Adelaide Footy League, Melville relocated to Darwin at the start of the season and has played all seven NTFL Premier League games for Nightcliff this season.

So far, he has 31 goals to his name and has kicked at least one goal in every game with a highlight being the 10 majors he kicked against the Tiwi Bombers on Bathurst Island in Round 4.

His history tells a similar story, 167 senior footy games to date for a total of 388 goals to his name.

A hard-running hit up forward, NT Thunder Manager Andrew Hodges said Melville would go some way to filling the boots of retired Thunder superstar, Darren ‘Boof’ Ewing.

“I’ve really enjoyed watching Trent play in the NTFL, he can play up high but is also comfortable playing deep in the traditional ‘Boof’ full forward position.

“He works hard to create space and his clean hands finish the work. He also has a deft kick which is what we need,” Hodges said.

Melville said he was enjoying Territory footy so far and looked forward to being part of the NT Thunder program.

“When I made the move to Darwin joining the NT Thunder was a goal of mine. I’m very lucky that I was given an opportunity so early, so I was really keen to get on board and can’t wait to get started.

“I’m enjoying NT footy and the exciting style; now I’m just looking forward to meeting my teammates and hopefully adding something to the group,” he said.
