In exciting news, out of the NT Thunder Club Champion Award presentation tonight, captain Shannon Rioli revealed in his address to the 150-strong crowd that he has signed on for season 2018 and 2019.

Rioli who has played 104 games for Thunder and has captained the side in 2016 and 2017 said he was looking forward to the future and had witnessed many promising signs in the season just gone.

“With the talent this group has, I feel we have an opportunity to do something very special in the next few years,” Rioli told the audience.

Rioli, who is sponsored by the Menzies School of Health Research, is a dual premiership player with NT Thunder (2011 and 2015) and is a fan favourite because of the fancy footwork and flair that sees him dodge and weave impressively around opponents.

Coach Andrew Hodges said Rioli was a shining example of the calibre of player the Club wanted.

“Shan is an inspiring leader on and off the field and it is humbling to know how deep his respect for the Thunder program and love for the Club runs. We are super excited he has committed to the next two seasons,” Hodges said.
