Sixteen-year-old Michael Mummery has committed to NT Thunder for the next two seasons.

The rookie, who was the Club’s youngest ever player when he made his NEAFL debut for NT Thunder in Round 1 2016, is currently the youngest player to be signed to the 2017 Thunder squad.

Earlier this year Mummery was chosen to play in the Australian School Boys’ Competition in South Africa, where he was named best on ground. He is also part of the NAB AFL Level 1 Academy.

He played six games and booted five goals in his debut season for NT Thunder and was awarded the 2016 Rookie of the Year award.

A member of the AFLNT State Academy, Mummery was also awarded the 2016 McAdam Medal for his performance at the U16 National Championships.

Andrew Hodges, head coach of NT Thunder, and no stranger to the youngster, said Mummery was an exciting youngster to have on the team.

“Michael showed experience beyond his years at this year’s Under 16 National Championships on the Gold Coast. He performed strongly throughout the series and gained AFL Academy selection as a result.

“He is a great prospect for NT Thunder and will learn a lot from the professionalism of the senior boys,” Hodges said.

In 2017 Mummery will be sponsored by McDonald’s.
